Ride #3
Red Tail Hawk DH
Hoopa, California
December 15th, 2007

Many racers made the journey to Hoopa and were greeted with a freshly watered course that would prove thouroughly challenge all in attendance.  James Seiberlich, employee of Revolution Bicycle Repair, took a hard hip check in early runs.  This enabled him to loan his rear brake to Brian Gerber, of the HSU cycling team, who had crashed and torn his lever to pieces.  For various reasons two Pirate DH riders, Joel Graves and Ryan Delong, both rode a smaller six inch bike and commented that they were not equipped for the loose and rough conditions.  Graves and Delong would crash in their second runs leaving Graves with a tenth place finish from his first run time. Ryan Delong would take third off his first run time, although his pace was faster o the second round.  Sadly the races eventual winner, Matt Cipes of Chico, would not finish his seond run.  A hard crash in a tightly treed section left Cipes immobile.  Paramedics arrived and he was carried off the hill and taken to Mad River Hospital.  We hope he is recovering and in stable condition.  Broken hip was the closest estimate of his injury.  Neverthelss Cipes first run would stand as the fastest of the day, a pace that not even he could best.  Second was Nick Olson of Chico with a fast seond run.
Many Thanks To The Trinity River Pirates and the Hoopa Tribe for hosting this event.
